JAMES SMITH 2  (James 1) b. abt. 1725 of Craven County, North Carolina, d. 1797/1799 in Wilkes County, Georgia.   James moved to Georgia before the Revolutionary War and married MaryJames was a Revolutionary Soldier he served in the Battle of Kettle Creek

  1. Martha Smith, b. 14 March 1770, probably in Craven County, NC, d. after 1854  in Butts County, GA; she married William Barron c. 1790.

  2. Mary Smith, b. c. 1760, d. abt. 1810; married Dempsey White.

  3. Sarah Smith, b. bef. 1765, d. unknown; married William Thompson.

  4. Rachel Smith, b. abt. 1777, d. 23 September 1848 in Newton Co., Georgia; married William Chaffin.

  5. John Smith, b. 1767/1769, d. 16 June 1827 in Jones County, Georgia.

  6. Nathan Smith, b. 9 March 1750/ 1751, d. 30 April 1816; married Sarah( Sally) Foster. Nathan  was a Revolutionary Soldier who also served at Kettle Creek.

  7. Jacob Smith, b. bef. 1765, d. 1790/1791; married Susannah Thompson  dau. of Benjamin Thompson.  Military Service: Revolutionary War. (Documented.  Headright/Bounty file, Georgia Archives).

  8. Elizabeth Smith, b. abt. 1780 in Wilkes County, Georgia, d. aft. 1837 in Kemper Co., MS; married David Collum.

 JOSEPH SMITH 3   (James 2, James 1b. c. 1775, d. 10 December 1865; he married (1) Polly Foster on 4 December 1799 in Wilkes County, Georgia; he married (2) Martha Guthrey Andrews on the  30 January 1848 in Henry County, Georgia.  

Children of Joseph and Polly (Foster) Smith:

  1. Jacob Smith, b. c. 1801; married Linsay Sisson 19 September 1841 in Jasper County, Georgia.  In 1851, Jacob and his first cousins Thomas and Smith Barron (sons of Martha Smith and William Barron above) were members of Hephzibah Baptist Church in Pike County, Alabama.

  2. William F. Smith, b. c. 1802, d. c. 1858 in Spalding County, Georgia; married Sarah Nichols 14 October 1828 in Jasper County, Georgia.

  3. Clarinda Smith, b. 1 September 1803, d. 29 November 1882; m. William Andrews Henderson, b. 2 August 1800, on 19 October 1824 in Jasper County, Georgia.

  4. Sarah Smith, b. c. 1805; she married Warren  Castleberry on 15 December 1819 in Jasper County, Georgia.

  5. Martha Smith, b. c. 1807, d. 8 March 1879 in Columbia County, AR; married John Whaley 19 December 1822 in Jasper County, Georgia.

  6. Ruth Smith, b. c. 1808, d. 22 February 1877 in Pike County, Alabama.

  7. Bethena/Bethany Smith, b. 1811, d. bet. June and November 1857; married Elijah Strickland on 26 September 1832 in Henry County, Georgia.

  8. Mary Smith, b. c. 1815; married Asa Miles on the 15 January 1833 in Henry County, Georgia.

 RUTH SMITH 4(Joseph 3, James 2, James 1) b. c. 1808, d. 22 February 1877;  she married Isaac Whaley 2  20 October 1825 in Jasper County, Georgia.  He d. 7 November 1858,  Isaac and Ruth (Smith) Whaley are both buried in Whaley Cemetery, Pike County, Alabama.
