Sexton

The Sexton family has a link to the Blairs through the marriage of a daughter Jane Sexton to James  McLain (McClean).

Generation 1

William Sexton1 b. 1800 South Carolina,  married Lucretia Unknown b. 1800. 

 Note: This family appears in the 1850 census of Baker Co., Georgia  last name spelled wrong  Seseton, with children listed as: James 18, Mary 20, Seth 13, Rebecca 15, Alfred 10, and Green 8.  William and Lucretia are both born in South Carolina.

George Sexton also appears in the 1850 Baker Co., Census with name spelled Sascton, married to Nancy, with one son named Willliam.  I believe this George to be the son  of William Sexton married to Lucretia. Later this George Sexton (Sascton) is living in Dale Co., Alabama along with an  Elias Sexton b. 1809 in South Carolina who could be a possible brother to William Sexton married to Lucretia.  

In the 1860 census record Jackson Co., Florida William Sexton and Lucretia are living with children in Household 777: Amburse 19 b. Alabama and Green 17, in Household 778 : James W. Sexton b. SC with wife Sarah F., and Household 779 Seth Sexton b. Georgia and wife Missouri.

  1. George Washington Sexton b. 22 Feb 1827 in Barnwell District, South Carolina, died 27 March 1920 in Dale Co., Daleville, Alabama.

  2. James W. Sexton, b. 1832 in South Carolina married Sarah F.

  3. Mary Sexton b. 1830.

  4. Seth R. Sexton b. Georgia, married Missouri.

  5. Rebecca Sexton b. 1835.

  6. Alfred Sexton b. 1840.

  7. Green Sexton b. 1842.

  8. Ambrose P. Sexton b. 1841 in Alabama.

Generation 2

GEORGE WASHINGTON SEXTON 2   b.  22 Feb 1827 in Barnwell District, South Carolina; died 27 March 1920 in Dale Co.,  Daleville, Alabama.  Served in Company H 37th Alabama Regiment.  He married Nancy Stokes 25 Nov 1847 in Henry Co., Alabama.  She was born 14 July 1825 in North Carolina.

JANE SEXTON 3   (George 1) was b. Abt. 1855; she married James McLain 1 4 July 1871 in Henry Co., Alabama.
